Hello again. I’m just wondering where your dad is from in Benguet. I spent my first 8 years in the municipality of Bocod since my dad was the superintendent of Boboc sawmill, a branch of Benguet Consolidated INC., which supplies lumber for the mines in Balatoc. After that, we had to live in Baguio since the company my dad worked for, send dependents of senior staff members to Maryknoll School in Baguio city.
My great, great grandfather (on my mother side) and his siblings used to live where the center of the city is now. They used to let thier carabaos wallow and feed around what is presently Burnham Lake. They were forced to move to the outskirts of the city when the government, (under the U.S. commonwealth) started to develop the area into a city. My ancestors who then lived around the lake, owned and raised lots of animals (which were then considered as thier riches because money was not “invented” or in use back then), had to move because animals were not allowed within the city limits, which is now Baguio City. They all moved to different locations around the city,- Loacan, Camp 7, Tuba, Asin, Guisad Valley, Benin, Long-long, Irisan and La Trinidad. So now, my relatives are spread all over the area.
My family and I, now live in Fairfield, California after I spent my 20 years stint with the U.S. Air Force.
I’ll let you know more next time. I just let you know more about myself, me, me, me, or I, I, I, I. But for you, it makes me sad to read here about the trajedy that happened in your life. My sympathy and condolences. I know the feeling because it happened to me also a few times when my mom died of cancer in April, and also when my son got killed in a car accident in 1991. They all say that time heals but up to now, it still hurts because of all the what ifs and whys that always pop out everytime I think back. Lets be brave and live the best we can because life has to go on.
Take care. ‘Til next time.
Sincerely,
Frank
[...] For something like this where I write more than a sentence or two in an open comment field, I normally take a copy of my answers but I didn’t this time. This website has served so many purposes since its inception nearly five years ago that it’s taken on a life of its own. There is a question in Darren’s survey that asks if I would like more readers, and I said yes, but not so much for people to read my writing, but to raise awareness about cancer issues, terminal illness, and dealing with major life events. And to an equal, if not greater extent, I hope people get inspired to enrich their lives — to go flying, take photographs, travel and see places for themselves, write, and love deeply. [...]
