Music: “Soul Bossa Nova” by Quincy Jones
Since I missed Melissa’s birthday, I started rooting around in my archives of the kids’ birthday videos.
This was taken with the first digital camera I owned, the Canon A30, which had no sound and only 30 seconds of video at one time. (Amazingly, as far as I know it’s still working and the kids use it now and again.) It’s the first videoclip I ever spliced together, but still one of my favourites.
Miss Madeleine, the middle of the five Ms, was celebrating her first birthday and at the time had a host of baby allergies that she eventually outgrew. I bought her a carob vegan cake (!) because she couldn’t eat eggs or milk, and I think she didn’t like chocolate. In fact, I think she still doesn’t like chocolate.
Whenever I watch this, there’s a narrative in my head that calls out my favourite parts:
(sparkler) What do I do now?
The Sway
Michael shows her how it’s done
The Recoil (after touching the cake)
The Shiver (which never ceases to make me laugh, even almost four years later)
It won’t be long before I can sit amongst the five kidlets and they can read to me while I soak my bunions, haha! Seriously, the oldest two are already reading and I’m sure Maddy will be following in their footsteps soon.
A year ago, David and I went to see a Celtic rock band from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, perform at the Scranton Cultural Center for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Since then I’ve discovered Youtube.com, so I’m reposting for the benefit of showing some of the video from the concert. The band gets a decent amount of airplay on public radio in Pennsylvania, but this clip highlights their energy and showmanship, too.
Came across YouTube.com on a friend’s site, and think I’ll give it a whirl. Totally free, uses Flash, files are searchable with categories and tagging system. I put a scrolling list of uploaded videos on the left panel (scroll WAYYYYYY down).
I shot this last November — barrel rolling in the Piper Tri-Pacer!
Arrived back from Washington, DC late last night, so I just decided to upload these four pics to Flickr that I rescued in Photoshop on the car ride home and hit the sack. I took these photos one year ago, visiting friends around France. The blog entries are here (or, just scroll up from the first post):
