Caplansky’s Deli continues in the fine Jewish tradition of overfeeding (remember Famous 4th Street Deli in Philly?), and what better way to spend a very chilly, somewhat snowy winter weeknight than with Jewish comfort food.

Maple Dipped Fried Chicken with garlic mashed potatoes
This was my first time to try Caplansky’s, which is weird since I love Jewish delis and I’ve been to lots in the whole region — Philadelphia, New York, and Montreal.
Or is the real question: why did it take me so long to experience Caplansky’s very phallic-looking deep fried dill pickles???

Deep Fried Dill Pickles
The food porn didn’t stop there, however. When the maple bacon donut bites arrived, we immediately thought of how well a pair of these would go with a deep fried dill pickle. We were too embarrassed to find out.

Maple Bacon Donut Bites
I don’t know how they could be called bites, either, since I cut them each in half and even half was more than a bite. When I placed two halves side-by-side, they looked like… you got it:

You don’t need much imagination for this.
Just like Nelly says, “It’s gettin’ hot in here…”

not to be confused with just ‘hot’
More bites of dessert, this time quite some very innocent-looking rugulach. Or–were they?

Gail, Gail. what did you have to drink? those comparisms Don’t sound like you.
