These soup bowls are listed as small on the menu. Seriously! I put in the red bottle for scale.
At least I ordered something other than #412 (chili chicken with lemongrass).
But we ordered too much food… it took us hours to get through most of it!

A tiny preview of this afternoon’s shoot in High Park. I was on a mission to find big piles of leaves and MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

This evening was very impromptu and involved a great deal of food! It started out at Sheherezade, sister restaurant and next door to my favourite Persian restaurant, The Pomegranate. The Pomegranate serves homestyle fare, while Sheherezade serves more grill-prepared food such as kabobs. Don’t be fooled by the word kabob, though, this is much more upmarket than a takeaway. Because I can’t pronounce anything on the menu — let alone spell anything — I’ll just direct you to it.
As is the case at The Pomegranate, the portions are ENORMOUS. Unless you’ve starved yourself all day, having an appetizer that comes with barbary flatbread will make it impossible to finish your main dish. Don’t let that stop you from ordering menu items just to try them, though! Take home leftovers and enjoy it all again later. The prices at both restaurants are extremely reasonable for the quality and portion sizes.
Now that you’ve been sufficiently warned about how much food will be landing in front of you, I have to make an honourable mention about the dizi that’s served in the earthenware pot above. Here’s the description pinched straight from the menu:
Dizi or ‘Abgoosht’
This is one of the most popular dishes in Iran, prepared and served in clay or stone pots called ‘Dizi’; It is a stew of lamb shank, lamb rib, chickpeas, white beans, potato, onion, tomato and spices cooked for over 4 hours. Abgoosht forms a complete 2-course meal: first the broth is carefully strained from the pot into a soup bowl. The broth is sipped as a soup and often soaked with torn pieces of barbary flatbread in a style called tareed’ (the slang version is tileet). The meat and the beans are then pounded into a coarse puree to be scooped up with flatbread and eaten with fresh scallions, creamy yogurt and torshi.
This is the first time I’ve tried it and it’s DELISH. The strained broth tastes out of this world, and I soaked the flatbread in it as was suggested by our server. I then mashed up the meat and beans left in the pot and ate it with the remaining flatbread, topped with bits of the pickle in the small dish and yogurt. Highly recommended!
I know what you’re thinking: Sweet Flour three times in one week?!? (Actually, five days!) Or maybe that’s not what you’re thinking, you’re imagining the taste of a cookie fresh from the oven. Mmmmm! Or maybe you’re thinking, ‘How on earth can she eat ANYTHING after that massive Persian meal??’
Today’s cookie: original dough, Snickers mix-ins, peanut butter pieces

By uploading and posting a few more shots from the Maine trip over Labour Day Weekend (was that only last month?!?), it’s pretty obvious I’m hankering for another weekend trip. Too bad there aren’t any more long weekends until Christmas!

Being too sick and too busy to do any shooting lately, the recent posts have been all cameraphone shots and weddings and not enough of my other interests, especially aviation. In fact, it’s been five months since I had an aviation fix: Blue Angels on Jones Beach in New York May 29, and the helicopter ride May 30. This summer I came to the sad realisation that this is the first season in five years that I will not make it to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome before their last day of biplane rides (extended from mid-Oct to Nov 1, but I can’t make it down this weekend). I was considering another biplane ride while in Ottawa in August, but I opted for trainspotting instead.
Now that the weddings are over for this season (there are still corporate and engagement shoots, though), I plan to post more aviation material before the end of the year. How? Good question, I’m working on it… meanwhile, for all the aviation enthusiasts out there who account for the majority of hits to this website, a guy at work taking flying lessons sent me this link (it’s safe for work, but put on the headphones!):
Wow! Watching this makes me want to play the lottery!

… or think of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s ode to the booty:
Yes, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the TTC employee is actually dressed up to raise funds for the United Way through their Pizza Wednesdays.

I was here two days ago for another meeting. Totally different cookie, though!
Today’s cookie: peanut butter with Snickers and pecans.
Sunday’s cookie: oatmeal with toffee pieces and pistachios.

A photo from two weddings ago, taken at 2:09am (I love EXIF). Shooting late has its advantages, you know. (The advantage is called alcohol. I’m the only sober person at 3am.) Funny thing is, the glasses are the DJ’s — someone left them at a previous wedding, and now he brings them along for photo ops like this. Out of all the DJs I’ve worked alongside, Brent is the friendliest I’ve ever met. Could he be from out of town? (ha!–I had to ask!) Yes, he’s from Alberta…
I’m still editing, as you can see. Last night I was editing up until nearly 6 o’clock this morning, which means I probably won’t last long editing tonight after driving patients, working, voting, cooking, and housecleaning. And I’m still sick, with a voice resembling Scarlett Johansson’s if she’d chain-smoked a pack of Camels. Charming, huh?

Literally. See how the voting signs are anchored in mud?
I went to the station near my house, which was difficult to reach due to the ongoing construction site that is my neighbourhood, and it turned out NOT to be my polling station!
No-one could tell me where it was, so I had to dial 311 to find out. Onwards to the correct station.
I wasn’t sent an election card (although I did receive one for other elections), which may be due to this being my first municipal election. Had to fill out paperwork, then finally got my ballot. The actual voting part was very quick.
