The Capitol Building

I’ve got a ton of videos that haven’t seen the light of day because I shot them pre-YouTube, Flickr, Blip.tv, Vimeo, etc. I like to put them somewhere other than my hard drive in case of theft/disaster/data corruption, etc. This one’s really short, but it’s 360 degrees (me spinning around) so you get a view of the capitol monument and memorials in Washington, DC.

David and I did this trip at Easter in 2005, and I shot all the pics and video with my trusty Canon A80 point-and-shoot. The set on Flickr is here, and I have a separate set just of the Smithsonian Museums. One major museum we missed due to timing and planned to return to visit was the Udvar-Hazy Aviation Museum (built in 2003) near the airport. We only had time to see the original building in the National Mall, the National Air and Space Museum. If we’d flown to Washington we would’ve stopped by Udvar-Hazy, but instead we drove (it was only about four hours from our house in PA) and stayed in a hotel in Maryland, choosing to take the train into Washington instead of parking the car.

Sigh. So much to see, so little time. This is the reason why I’m always travelling when I can manage it. I’m in one of those rare times when I can’t always be mobile and spontaneous, because of commitments (weekend shoots, in this case), so I have to plan far in advance. I’ve been keeping an eye on my Aeroplan mileage to see where I can fly next, because I really, really need a break. I’m thinking of Eastern Canada, but it’s still winter… I should really save Eastern Canada for the autumn.
