I don’t know what’s gotten into the cats lately, but they are being really picky about their food. I used to dish it out (a mix of wet and dry) into two separate bowls, even though it was the same food, but last year I reduced them to one bowl because they would take so long to finish, the wet food would get stale and they refused to eat it. All their food is expensive — low-protein because of Beano’s kidney problems, and only available through veterinarians. I can’t afford wasted food when it’s this costly, and the idea of wasted food is never good, anyway. So even though Beano protests the not-so-fresh food situation, I ignore them until they eat what’s left and then I give them a new bowl. The problem isn’t appetite — they definitely have appetites and devour the bowl quickly most times — but on a day when they lounge around and don’t eat as quickly as they normally do and the wet food isn’t consumed right away they find it less appetising.
Eh, too bad! If I had to eat all my food before I left the table as a kid, then the cats can do it, too!
Today I was defrosting a package of frozen beef to make a stew and guess who jumped on the counter to attack it? Yeah, Mister Guilty! I’m pretty certain Arliin used to let the cats have the run of her apartment, including the counters and table, but I’m a stickler for no pets anywhere near human food spaces and I enforce this with a spray bottle filled with water. I had to spray Mister Guilty several times today to get him off the kitchen counter, and I was dreading an act of revenge somewhere in the form of cat pee (he did this last week) or even worse, but I couldn’t find any evidence.
If this behaviour escalates I’m going to have to find a better solution, but for now the Pet Police has only a water bottle in her holster.
