Eric took this photo back in the summer (which seems forever ago, now that the temperatures have plummeted), a shot of me taking a shot of the sculpture in front of the Art Gallery of Ontario. Which reminds me that I need to visit the newly-renovated AGO because I’ve not yet stepped foot inside! It was under renovation for years and years, and after it opened it was popular and busy so I didn’t make it a priority. The latest featured exhibit, King Tut, has had a warm reception and I’d better check it out before it leaves town.
The reason why I posted this photo by Eric is to highlight the reason why I don’t want to take photography full-time, because commerce has a funny way of killing passion. It’s the reason why David never became an airline pilot, because he loved to fly on his own terms. I haven’t shot a photograph for fun in nearly two weeks, which for me is a long time. I usually take an average of 1,000 pictures a month excluding commissioned shoots but I am well under that for November and December. I’ve been working around the clock, but in front of a computer in post-processing, not shooting. This isn’t a complaint, per se — I have no illusions about what I have to do. But I need to get my camera out and keep shooting. Just keep shooting.
Music for today: Aretha Franklin’s “I Say A Little Prayer” — a performance that’s older than I am but it’s a classic. She belts out this tune effortlessly without dragging out all the notes (a la American Idol). She ain’t called the Queen of Soul for nothin’. I also like the style of the backup singers, they’re Motown regal.
