Went to my first Christmas party at The Firm this evening, which was exactly what I needed after a bad start to the day. My work there is going just fine, it’s everything else that’s been a struggle. The last few weeks have been rough, and this week has been brutal. So I welcomed a few hours of eating and drinking and escapist conversation. It sounds bizarre to refer to working on Bay Street as escapism but I appreciate that it has no resemblance to the business of photography.
I can’t wait to get through December, in case you couldn’t tell. The short walk from the office to the resto/bar was in a deep chill (it’s -9C right now!), and when I left to go home it felt twice as cold. Winter is definitely upon us.
In searching for an image for today I gravitated towards this peaceful scene of candles burning in a cathedral in Vienna. It’s very simple and low on detail, exactly what my brain needs right now.
Music for today: the ’80s meets the ’00s (?) — KT Tunstall jams with Daryl Hall at his house in London for “Out of Touch”, one of my favourite songs from the Big Hair Era
