December 8, 2009 by Gail

Done with court! Second speeding ticket from that crappy weekend in March has been reduced to a fine, with no points. No more speeding tickets for me!

I had a discussion with the prosecutor before court proceeded (which is customary, even when I went to traffic court in New York) to determine how I wished to plea. Like last time, I plead not guilty to the original charge and guilty to the reduced charge, which carried no points.

Not this time, I work nearby so I represented myself. At least in North America, I would recommend a lawyer local to the court if you can’t represent yourself, as a conviction with points impacts insurance rates to the tune of thousands of dollars over time. Quebec, Ontario, and New York state have a reciprocal agreement to apply equivalent points to your home province/state driver’s license if you receive a ticket there.

Going to court is so NOT cool, though, I find it embarrassing and I don’t want to do this again!
