I have a Jewish mother-in-law, this video made me laugh…

(Some humour was in order — I couldn’t bear looking at the broken lens anymore!)

  3. The Damage

    September 21, 2009 by Gail

Click on the pic for comments… I have a boxing event to shoot on Thursday and a wedding on Saturday, so I’ve rented lenses to cover both days. But I might have to take Glen up on his shop suggestion to try and get this broken filter off the lens. So far nobody’s been able to do it!

    the damage up close

There are some scratches on one side of the lens (the other stuff is dust) and some cosmetic damage to the metal, but not serious enough to ground the lens entirely. I still have to get the filter off, though.

  4. I Survived The Weekend, Now I Need A Holiday

    September 20, 2009 by Gail

I had one of the best shooting weekends ever, and now I’m going to collapse. I wish I had time to expound on the greatness!

    However…

I will find out in the morning if my workhorse of a lens (the expensive one *sob*) is officially broken :(

I have no hot water right now :(

Since I cannot seem to choose a favourite photo from the 600+ I shot over the weekend, I will post one from Maria’s pirate party last night that represents two events at once: Maria’s birthday and Talk Like A Pirate Day.

    Day 3: horseshoe crab shell

This was a four-day work week for me, and yet I was still happy to see Friday arrive. I think this feeling is commonly referred to as the post-vacation blues, where it all sinks in that I have NO MORE HOLIDAY TIME LEFT until January… *sob*

And I have such a busy day tomorrow that I have to get up before 8 o’clock (laugh all you want, I work at NOON weekdays — 8:00 is awfully early!) to make a breakfast client meeting and then it’s nonstop from there. Yikes.

If you’re wondering what that big shell is in the photo above, it belonged to a horseshoe crab and they’re huge. Eric hates ‘em — he calls them insects of the sea!

  9. Itching To Fly

    September 17, 2009 by Gail

    Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

While talking to my mother-in-law earlier this evening, I’ve only just realised how late it is in the airshow season and I haven’t flown in the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome biplane yet. ORA’s airshows finish around the middle of October and usually by this time I’ve made several trips over the Hudson River. Maybe it’s because I’ve been to three airshows, flew once with Alan, had a biplane ride in Ottawa in July, and my summer’s flown by at breakneck speed, but it just occurred to me that I only have one opportunity left to make an ORA biplane ride this year. With two weddings booked and various commitments between now and then, my fingers and toes are crossed that the weather — and aircraft — cooperate for my next road trip to Rhinebeck and I can put on my goggles and helmet and fly!

The photo above was taken during the last weekend of the 2007 season. The museum folk know that I like to film from the backseat and are very accommodating about it, so that’s where I usually sit. On this particular trip I was sitting behind a couple who were riding in a biplane for the first time and were pretty thrilled with the experience. I especially remember the wife’s reaction, and I wanted to capture it.

  10. Brookfield Place

    Brookfield Place

While we were shooting Brookfield Place, a random blonde strode directly towards me and chirped “HELLO!” in a tone that suggested that we knew each other. She asked us what we were doing, as if two DSLRs pointed at the (locally-famous) ceiling were not enough information to go by. I tried to figure out if I had met her before and didn’t remember, but I think she must’ve been part of the Thursday night crowd made up of financial industry types who schmooze and booze their way into Friday. I could be totally wrong, but this part of town isn’t exactly known for being randomly friendly. I think she was lit.
