  1. Weekend Mini-Recap

The weekend was a bit of a blur, as I’d expected, but I did take a lot of photos — I just haven’t had time to do anything with them. But seeing as I have to wake up in a few hours I will have to make the recap ultra-brief, maybe two photos… the one above was taken on Friday night at Buskerfest, and I’ll pick one or two from the exuberant BBQ-Birthday-Bon Voyage Bash at Maria’s on Saturday night. So many to choose from…

I also volunteered at The Brides’ Project both Saturday and Sunday, which wiped me out but the experience came with lots of great moments, including helping Maria’s daughter find a wedding dress! Of course, I can’t show those photos…

Last night Eric and I gorged ourselves at The Korean Grill and topped up at The Local (a great neighbourhood pub), winding down his last days in Toronto. Tonight we had roti with Rob and walked home with mango sticky rice vying for space in our bellies. Something tells me Eric’s leaving Toronto a few pounds heavier!

  5. Summer In The City

This is going to be a bit of a rambling post since I’m on my way out again after passing out as soon as I got home a much-needed nap, thanks to a 4:45am wake-up time (I’m covering for a colleague on holiday — next week is going to be brutal). Anyone who knows me at all knows this is often the time I go to bed, which meant that last night after an Indian dinner with friends I forced myself to go to bed by 10:30pm (!). I did, believe it or not! I think I was asleep by 11, but that 4:45 alarm was still very unwelcome.

This weekend and all of next week is going to be even busier than usual, with four people + 2 cats in my place over three days, volunteering both Saturday and Sunday, barbecues, two weekday photoshoots, and I mentioned those early starts at The Firm… I would love to post more from the Massachusetts trip, but sleep is somewhat of a priority these days.

Anyway, the weekend is here — no more talk about work! — and I wanted to share one more photo from our little excursion to Centre Island earlier this week because it turned out to be my favourite of the bunch, even though I didn’t notice it until the following day. Viewing it 500 pixels wide just won’t do, though, have a look at it over at gailatlarge.net and you’ll see a much better version.

Oh, and I finally uploaded a photo that I shot when we went up to the Panorama Lounge last week. It’s the skyline from the other side, uptown at Bay/Bloor (51 floors up):

Now over to Buskerfest to see if I can catch the fire show!

  6. Elan Summer Dance Festival – Provincetown, MA

    Elan Summer Dance Festival

I’ve not had much time to upload photos from the Massachusetts trip, but I wanted to upload this video of a dance performance I watched in Provincetown last Saturday. There were free dance performances all day as part of the Elan Summer Dance Festival and I would’ve watched every single one had we been there longer than a day trip — the dances were both evocative and engaging. (There was one dance where a man and woman were joined by a pair of handcuffs.)

I’m disappointed the video came out so dark! I’ll upload some photos later to show the dancers better.

  7. Veg Potluck Feast

    dinner at Rob's

For an ordinary Tuesday evening, there was some truly extraordinary eating going on. A bunch of us got together for a vegetarian potluck dinner with Rob and a couple of his couchsurfers, and I can include Eric in the CS category since he stayed with Rob for a few days last week to vary his accommodation (and reduce the cat company from two to one!).

Eric cooked up some yummy minestrone soup — a modified version of his mum’s recipe to make it vegetarian-friendly, I put together my Tex-Mex-ish salad, Maram made spicy tofu, the German and Austrian surfers made an entree with spinach and gorgonzola cheese, Rob made mango sticky rice and polenta, and I’m sure there was more food but I’m too full to try and remember it all…

  9. Sunset From Centre Island

The sky outside the glass walls of The Firm yesterday afternoon was so inviting, I suddenly had an idea for a picnic directly across the water on Centre Island. The weather was perfect for a trip to the islands, a different view of the city (my favourite, actually), and eating outdoors…

I sent Eric a message to see if he was interested and he met me at the subway station with picnic stuff in tow an hour and a half later: blankets, my flip-flops, cameras, and the portable speakers I just bought in Cape Cod for such occasions. We stopped by the Sobey’s Express on Queens Quay for dinner provisions and took the ferry over to Centre Island, watching planes land at TCCA and sailboats in the marina. These photos were our dinner views, with a few hungry seagulls on standby. It’s hard to believe only Thursday we were trapped inside Poutini’s House of Poutine on Queen Street while a storm raged furiously a few feet away.

Stick around, summer, we love you!

  10. Sunrise From The Window Seat

    sunrise over New York

I’m back from my weekend adventures in Boston/Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and it’s a ridiculous time of the morning to be on a computer. (But when has that stopped me from posting before?)

I downloaded and backed up all the photos — all 778 of them; there’s a special reason why there are so many from a single weekend — and before I hit the sack I’ll share a few from the Buffalo-NYC flight, which was ungodly early but incredibly beautiful.
