  2. Back In BC

    February 20, 2009 by Gail

    Thursday morning

As you can see, I’m back in BC, where the south coast is relatively warm and sunny and snow-free (except on the mountains). It’s so spring-like a coat would’ve been overkill today. Bring on the spring!

My red-eye flight on Wednesday originated in Halifax and deplaned late in Toronto, which pushed my arrival to 2am — nearly an hour later than usual. The red-eyes are usually not full but this one was packed to the gills, for some reason. Eliza very kindly picked me up at the airport at that crazy hour… in her pyjamas!

  5. House of Crazy

    February 18, 2009 by Gail

I heard some commotion from the bedroom and found Beano chasing his tail. I wasn’t sure if I could get this on video because when I’m around he stops whatever he’s doing, as if he could pretend nothing happened.

I like how at the end Beano does a little demure nose-clearing, like he wasn’t just acting like a nutty beast a moment before.

  6. !@#%!

    February 17, 2009 by Gail

I took this with my mobile phone’s camera so it’s super dark, but maybe you can see the wires hanging out… some COWARD hit my driver’s side mirror, smashing it to smithereens, and kept driving (or biking, I don’t know)! No note, nothing. I was parked properly as well, my car was right up to the curb.

    Grrrrr…..

  7. Some Weekend Photos

    February 17, 2009 by Gail

    GEF_5254

Actually, all the photos in this post are from brunch at Natalia’s on Sunday, because that’s the only day I took pictures this weekend. Aye, I know, it’s a travesty! I spent many hours planted in front of my computer, working, but I did make it to Friday Dinner Venue #6 — Canyon Creek Chop House in Etobicoke (oh no! a chain!) — and later to The Rhino for a beer, where my little LED flashlight came in handy to illuminate their terribly-hard-to-read beer menu. (Black font on a dark blue background? Whose un-bright idea was that?)

I worked all through Valentine’s Day, which made life a little easier for me in several ways.

By the time Sunday rolled around, I was ready to break out of my self-imposed deep digital work spell and head to Natalia’s for brunch. It would take a lot for me — a lot more than work, that’s for sure — to turn down an invitation to brunch, no matter if it’s dining out or in. Bring on the brunch!

  8. Air Time Canada: Free Aviation Program For Youth

    February 16, 2009 by Gail

    the boy who could fly

[A photo I took of Vinny, the boy who wanted to fly, and did.*]

This is amazing, I can’t believe such a thing exists, but according to the website Air Time Canada has been around for 14 years. They’re in the Vancouver area and fly out of Boundary Bay Airport.

    From the website:

Air Time Canada is a non-profit organization that administers free and nearly-free aviation-based leadership and self confidence programs for teens and adults. The program is run and paid for by volunteers and by voluntary donations from past participants.

A FREE introduction to flying? No shilling for companies? They say not. Here’s info on their Co-Pilot Program. After a quick skim, one limitation is that Transport Canada restricts the participant weight to 170lbs (just over 77kgs), which means it really is oriented to young people. But their one-day Ground School is completely free — they even pay for lunch!

If you have kids interested in aviation (or might be) and you live in the Lower Mainland of BC, definitely check it out! And if you do participate in one of their programs, I’d love to hear what you have to say about it. I hope this nonprofit group is around for a long time yet, maybe my nieces or nephew would be good candidates in a few years.

Hahhahahahaaha! He moved in way too close for this lens to focus, but the photo looks hilarious in a thumbnail… this is straight off the memory card.

Photos from icanhascheezburger.com, set to music by The Cure. Of course! If you’d like to LOL your cat photos, you can do it here.

The Cure video is by request from Liz a year ago, but the original video by The Cure has embedding disabled in YouTube by their record label, Universal Music Group. You can view it here.
