  1. Summer’s Sugary Exit

What’s a county fair without cotton candy and ice cream?*

My LANDS, I have an electronic mound of terrific photos from the weekend but — at the risk of sounding boringly repetitive — there is little time for the workflow process to get them online. So I leave you with two of my favourites, featuring my favourite upstate New York munchkins, the super-cute kidlets of Toyfoto. Read her entry here.

And I must point you to several photos she took [1 2 3] which I absolutely adore: me reading a book called “Tub-Boo-Boo” that requires a solid pair of lungs and a BFA in Theatre. You don’t read this book, you perform it!

    * A rhetorical question, because the answer would be really sad.

  2. Beano Gets Vocal

    September 3, 2008 by Gail

There was enough sitting around in rush hour traffic to record some vocal displeasure from The Old Bean for taking him to the vet and holding him prisoner. He gets louder than this and bangs on the cage with his paws, but the wailing is what makes me wish sometimes that the vet’s office was closer to us. But I do like the vets and everyone there knows both Xena and Beano and their medical histories, so I’m willing to do this drive when necessary. Hopefully it will be a LONG WHILE before it’s time to head back.

I’m happy to report that Beano’s expensive cardio ultrasound, which I booked months and months ago, shows no serious issues. He has a weakened heart valve that’s causing the murmur discovered in January, but it’s a ‘monitor’ situation rather than ‘must treat’ condition. I also had Beano’s kidney levels checked, but I haven’t got those results yet.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other

At first glance you might think, "yeah, it’s the cat" but actually it’s the one Pentax body surrounded by Nikon gear. (Click on the pic to see notes in Flickr.)

I just bought a used Nikon D300 and the couchsurfers that arrived tonight are Nikon shooters, so the kitchen table was a black sea of photography gear. It was a little less cluttered with stuff when I took the photo.

The D300 is quite a leap from my Pentax K100D (which I’m keeping, along with all the other Pentax gear), but I look forward to the challenge of mastering this new gadget.
