19 Aug 2008 As Day Slips Into Night

I couldn’t resist processing and posting two of my favourite shots from the weekend before finally hitting the sack. First of all, the golden hour on Sunday evening was incredible — I couldn’t stop shooting backlit pictures like this one on South Street:

a sunset full of promise

Here’s a typical tourist shot of the back of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Schuylkill River, with the necessary help of a tripod on Saturday night:

More photos to come!

House Of Fielding Reunited

It’s after 4 o’clock in the morning but I’m finally home! More than 1,000 miles (1,600 kms) later, I’m happy to report that by stopping along the I-90 West I averted the distinct possibility of being struck by lightning between Rochester and Buffalo. In fact, the journey home was relatively uneventful — despite the storm — because, unlike the trip south I was not asked for candy (I’m serious!) by a border guard who looked eerily like a younger version of Louie Anderson, nor did I encounter a dangerous driver who neither signals when crossing lanes or shoulder-checks his blind spot, nearly running me off the road.

I had a stupendous weekend in Philadelphia, but I’m always thankful to arrive home in one piece!

19 Aug 2008 Waiting Out A Storm

I’m using the free wi-fi at a service centre along the New York State Thruway, hoping the storm doesn’t cut the power. The lights keep flickering and I think it took out the router temporarily because it wouldn’t load any webpages, including this one. At least I can access my email.

Sheets of rain, thunder, and too-close-for-comfort LIGHTNING made me pull over. Here’s hoping it subsides soon so I can get home to my bed and cats. I’ve got about two hours of driving left if all goes well, including the border.
