6-Year Blogiversary

July 28, 2008 by Gail

Neesa (BW)

Today I officially reached another milestone: the six-year mark for online publishing. I’ve only celebrated the blogiversary once before, last year, but it’s really only been in the last few years that the posts evolved into full-length chronicles and the photography resembled more than just snapshots.

Current tally of posts is 2,552 including this one!

Since the five-year blogiversary post, I’ve noticed some changes regarding subject matter.

First of all, the House of Fielding has expanded and cats feature prominently again. This time, not just by one, but two. The routine these days include the usual cat maintenance duties plus fluid injections twice a week. Losing my friend Arliin to unknown causes has made for a painful 2008, but taking care of her furry kids was the best thing I could’ve done, for her and for me.

I’ve also made a shift to writing less about David. I don’t think about him any less, but I keep my thoughts about him, about us, mostly to myself. It’s been more than two and a half years since his death, and I still refer to him as my husband. Most people in my day-to-day life have either never met him, or knew he existed. I still wear our rings in public. I’ve become more adept at dodging fielding questions about my “status” (as one person called it).

I think of Arliin, Vinny, and Greg often, but those thoughts stay offline for now. I write drafts and notes in various places but don’t publish them. I started an In Memoriam page instead.

I think the website serves a different set of purposes as it — and I — get older. I concentrate on improving my photography first and my writing second. I don’t use my website as a social network or a therapy tool, it’s more like an exhibit wall… a constantly changing exhibit. The Museum of Gail? (At least this museum never closes!)

As ever, thanks for stopping by.

No matter what the intention, it’s an enjoyable read/gallery. Happy 6th blogiversary!

    Thanks, everyone!

The highly personal writing will likely be saved for a book. I’ve mentioned it briefly in the “Who” section.

I’d like to write more as a storyteller here, but I’m a slow writer and a chronic revisionist so the storytelling doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. Writing came more easily to David, which is why I prodded HIM to write the blog post and I’d work on the pictures to accompany the story. He was always finished first and waiting for me to catch up…

The good thing about a website is that you can always change it. The scary part about trying to write a book is that once it’s printed, you can’t change a thing.
