(Soul II Soul’s track — arguably one of the best singles of 1989)
After about a week of laying low and working on various projects (except for the Summerlicious interlude), I decided to break the work-eat-sleep cycle and join in some meetups around town. On Thursday night after work, I took my houseguest Eve out to the Cadillac, a lounge in neighbouring Queen Street West to meet up with a bunch supporting a Burning Man fundraiser. Because of all the travelling I’ve been doing lately (28 days in a six week period!) I hadn’t seen the couchsurfing crowd in a long while.
Time to break out some Magners!
Tonight (Friday) I met up with Anf, Neesa, and Nadja for an impromptu photo/eating session that started off with me taking them to the balancing rocks out by the Humber Arch Bridge. Except that somebody knocked down the rocks!! What?!?
What a disappointment!
I, undeterred, suggested we continue on to the bridge to do some long exposures before making our way to Little Portugal for some food. After all, I was already carrying the tripod.

We found a bakery that was open until 1am, but as it turned out they didn’t serve any savouries. We decided to push on for a place to get some food and return for dessert. By this time it was nearly 11pm, but we found a Vietnamese restaurant that advertised vegetarian dishes so we tried our luck there.
It was OK, but they were skimpy on the lemongrass (c’mon!) and my dish was more like what I had at Pho Hung than my favourite Vietnamese haunt, Xe Lua, a little further south along Spadina.
We made it to the bakery with only minutes to spare, but the proprietors were kind enough to offer us table service, anyway. Behold, the desserts:
There’s nothing quite like a sugar rush at 1 o’clock in the morning!
