Our dear Nicole (below photo, centre) was due to return home to Germany today after her six-month work stint in the GTA, so the CS group in Toronto had a farewell bash in her honour at the newly-opened Crown & Tiger pub on College Street.
When I arrived, it was all dark inside because of Earth Hour and everyone was practically hushed to silence by the darkness. It was so quiet I thought I must’ve had the wrong place!

oops, the flash didn’t fire, but I thought the streaks were interesting
Once the lights went up, the pub started to fill with parties small and large, including an older group who — I think — were celebrating a birthday…
… I believe it was the lady in the purple sweater. So what does Marin do? Why, head on over to help celebrate, of course!
It was quite funny because I overheard a girl exclaim: “That’s my GRANDMOTHER!”
People in our group came and went over the course of the evening but we averaged around 20 at any given time, and we were soon joined by Mr. Tequila. You may recall Mr. Tequila’s shenanigans from Garry’s birthday party a few weeks ago. His friends tagged along to the Crown & Tiger, but Nicole — in a wise move — didn’t partake this time. After all, she had a plane to catch and there really is nothing worse than being on a plane for seven hours feeling absolutely wretched. (I have a story about this from Auckland, NZ, to Singapore. It was 10 of the longest hours in my life… at the time, anyway.)
Nicole still had to pack this morning, but I suggested that we have breakfast near where she was staying so we could see her one more time before her flight. Then after I got home I set two alarms! (And I didn’t have any tequila!)
I picked up Rosie and Nadja along the way to the Danforth where we met up with the others at Athena Bakery, which I’d visited before with Lana and George so I knew the items on the menu would be good. To me, nothing beats a leisurely weekend breakfast/brunch, especially after a night out. Athena Bakery is a small place, but they make their pastries on the premises and with the espresso machine working its magic on the side, the smells and flavours are absolutely divine.
We all sadly parted ways on the Danforth and Rosie and I headed westwards, where our beds were calling us for much-needed naps!
The entire photoset from the Crown & Tiger can be viewed as thumbnails, a slideshow, or by clicking through the Pictobrowser below.
(I still haven’t got my external flash fixed, so I had to use my onboard flash… bah! Sorry for the harsh, unflattering lighting, folks!)

do you all ever stop partying??
It sure seems like we party 24/7, doesn’t it? It’s funny because I’m not even a partyer, yet all the photos seems to indicate otherwise. I’m just the photographer!
It’s a fun crowd, a mix of locals (newly-local and local yokels) and travellers and friends-of-friends and people passing through, but everyone gets along very well. I think that’s the spirit of CS — no matter how different everyone’s background is, there’s always plenty of common ground… and not just drinking! In fact, some people don’t drink, or drink very little (including me). Some make up for others, so it averages out, ha.
