01 Feb 2008 Panda Prison Break, brought to you by Melissa

A favourite of Melissa’s. I showed it to her on my iPod Touch after Science World a month or so ago in Vancouver, and when we were out for dinner with my friends at SalaThai afterwards, she told them about it.

“Show it to them, Auntie Gail,” she prompted.

Melissa with Mark and Vicky

“They can see it on the internet anytime,” I replied. We were all eating dinner and I didn’t want to interrupt the meal, but I felt rather badly about it afterwards because she was excited about sharing it with them. It was the first time I’d ever taken Melissa to dinner by herself with only my friends and she was ever so good. She picked the skin off her Thai barbecue chicken and did a marvellous job of tackling her adult-sized plate. When she wasn’t able to eat all of her chicken, she said she would wrap up the rest and take it home to her daddy.

Aww, what a sweet little girl Melissa is growing up to be. I can’t believe she’s eight and a half! *sniff*

Next time I’ll take her bungy-jumping. (I kid.)

So, for Melissa who wanted to share the panda prison break movie with Mark and Vicky, I share the video with all of you!

01 Feb 2008 Good Boy, Beano!

Project Injection

Twice a week Beano’s supposed to get injected with 150ml of fluids to compensate for his chronic kidney failure. (Each line on the bag is 50mls.) I’ve taken the cap off the needle so you can see how big it is. It’s the 18-gauge needle that intimidates me — Beano’s a small cat and I have to shove this big thing under his skin between his shoulder blades. The part that gives me the heebie-jeebies is puncturing his skin. If Beano was a cow he wouldn’t even notice and it wouldn’t bother me to do this, but if Beano was a cow he wouldn’t be sleeping in my bed, either…

Anyhow, this time I got Philip to hold Beano and I did the injecting. Compared to Tuesday, it went a lot more smoothly! I got the line going right away and he only tried to jump away once.

Good boy, Beano!

Beano, post-injection

Beano always looks mildly pissed off, afterwards. And 150mls of fluid tends to slide down his shoulder, making him look like half-linebacker cat. So he’s a pissed off, lopsided kitty for a while until his body absorbs the fluids.

I always apologize to Beano, before and after the injection. Poor thing. If there was any other way to do this, I would do it!

01 Feb 2008 Snow Day
 |  Category: Blah Blah Blah  | One Comment

today

This morning I woke up to a skylight completely covered in snow.

This is how my neighbourhood looked this afternoon when I came home early from work. Not bad, really, considering how much snow dumped on the suburbs. There were people who didn’t make it to work at all.

My intention was to come home, have a quick nap, shovel the sidewalk and run an errand but all I did was have a long snooze with the cats. Not a very productive evening, but tonight is Project Injection, I’m doing an airport pickup at the ungodly hour of 6:30 tomorrow Sunday morning (it’s a good thing I reconfirmed the date!), and the weekend is looking rather busy. I’ll take all the sleep I can get!

yep, that's my car under there
