  1. There’s a Car Under There

    December 16, 2007 by Gail

    there's a car under there

I went to see a Second City show this afternoon, and arrived home to find my car under a pile of snow. At least it stopped snowing!! When I was on my way to the show hardly any of the streets were snowplowed and all the sidewalks were still snowbanks. The streetcars were stuck, so I had to cab it to the subway station and get off at St. Andrew station and walk the rest of the way.

The show was a hoot, but the best part of the day was meeting a couple of people at the venue, surviving the two hairy blocks together through blowing snow to the nearest open coffee shop — Tim Horton’s — and chatting for hours. It made the stomp-and-shuffle through Winter Wonderland feel very worthwhile.

  2. Even the Snowman Won’t Go Out

even the snowman won't go out

I won this snowman at my office’s end-of-season lunch. It was the "Keep or Steal" game with the Christmas presents, where you can either keep the gift you get or steal someone else’s. This snowman was a hot item — it made the rounds between at least four people. I tried to hide my gift, but at the end someone found it, so I stole the snowman under protest for my nieces and nephew!

I took it to a vote, whether to steal it for the kids or to leave it with its current owner, and the vote went to the kids!

When you press its foot, it dances and the lights come on.

I woke up this morning to a skylight completely covered in snow. How much snow, I have no idea. Light is still filtering in, but this is the first time it’s been totally covered — usually the snow slides off.

It’s supposed to keep snowing until tomorrow morning!

If I hadn’t RSVP’ed for this afternoon’s show at Second City I would be staying home, but I figure if the performers can drag themselves through this mess, it would be a shame if nobody showed up to see them! (Yes, I called first to see if it’s still on and no, I’m not driving.)

  3. The Simpsons Intro Live

Maybe it’s all this editing I’m doing, because I don’t even watch The Simpsons and find this fascinating.

  4. Live Music at Sneaky Dee’s

    December 16, 2007 by Gail

I braved a night of winter driving to sample The Pomegranate and see live music at Sneaky Dee’s. The venture did not disappoint on either count, but I certainly do not want to be driving around in these treacherous conditions more than once every couple of weeks. That’s enough winter driving for me!

Some photos from Sneaky Dee’s of the band Dead Letter Dept. The rest I’ll upload later, after a recharge.
