Plan A: I was supposed to fly to Paris this weekend to attend Greg’s funeral then take the train down to Blois (his hometown), but my passport didn’t arrive in time to make the flight.
Plan B: I had some business to take care of in northeastern Pennsylvania on Monday, so I thought I would drive down to Lancaster County (in the south) on Saturday to visit some friends over Saturday and Sunday.

Except my car broke down halfway there, just outside the town of Bath, New York, population 12,000. The garage doesn’t open until Monday, and the closest car rental agency that’s open is at Elmira Airport (30+ miles away), but there is only one taxi cab in Bath and they have limited hours.
“On Sunday I only work 9 to 3,” he said, driving from the towing yard to the hotel, where I nabbed the second-to-last room in the ENTIRE TOWN. (There was a wine festival here.)
“Is there anywhere in town that has internet?” I asked.
He doubled over in laughter. I guess that means no.
I could probably get to Elmira Airport and rent a car and continue to Pennsylvania, but there’s no guarantee I can get a taxi from Elmira Airport back to Bath. Plus, if the car needs some parts or the garage here can’t fix it, I need to be with the car for AAA to tow it somewhere else.
Hence, a weekend in Bath, New York. Not a Plan C (or D or E!), but hey, the Glenn H. Curtiss (Aviation) Museum is just a few miles up the road and they were open today! And tonight there are finally vacancies, so I found a hotel that has an internet connection. Things are looking up.
