Photo taken in Halifax harbour, June 24.
My niece Melissa, aka M1 and the eldest of the MJEs, is eight years old today, which makes me feel simultaneously proud and… older. I was around during her baby and toddler and kidlet years, but now that I live thousands of kilometres away her growth rate seems much less gradual and more like a runaway train. Next thing I know, she’ll be graduating and ready to take on the world! (Not yet, missy! Not yet!)
I’ll post some Melissa photos later today.
Flightless and in need of a stylist, the emu got rather short-changed in the evolutionary process, wouldn’t you say?
Our picnic in High Park got rained out yesterday morning, so we all piled up at someone’s house nearby and a few of us toured around the park afterwards to walk off the food. I’ve been living beside High Park for a month now, but this is the first time I’ve actually visited. (A lot of firsts lately, yes.)
The zoo animals weren’t too keen on the drizzle, either, but the llamas didn’t seem to mind. One even yawned, as if to say, “What’s a little rain? As long as they feed us.”
The weekend’s over already? Geez.
On Saturday I was lucky enough to be invited out to a ballgame at the Rogers Centre, courtesy of my friend’s workplace. (Thanks A! A six-course meal is coming your way!)
I lived beside this stadium for 13 months, and I’d not seen a baseball game (ever) until Saturday. I like sports, and will spectate just about any (I’ve been to Wimbledon, international rugby tournaments, European soccer, etc.), but I just never got around to baseball.
I can see why people get into baseball, though, it’s a perfect summer activity: outside, refreshments, the game’s slow enough to chat through, kid-friendly. Some people like baseball enough to use it as a venue to showcase their love, but you know, different strokes for different folks.
I dragged all four cameras with me to try and capture some action digitally, with varying degrees of success. To shoot sporting events, one needs a fast camera with an enormous lens, but I made do with what I had:
