I keep looking at these photos of the drive to Akranes, so I might as well post a couple more. There were hardly any other vehicles on the winding road — in fact, when I saw this waterfall we didn’t really have to pull over for me to take a shot because there was no-one around. He did, anyway, and it turned out to be only one of many waterfalls enroute.

I suppose it’s easy to become jaded about Icelandic scenery if you’re surrounded by it all the time, but I couldn’t get enough of it. Geologically, Iceland is unique in its landscape and remains quite unspoiled. However, tourism is currently booming there and I’m sure it will only increase as the years go by. Icelanders are active in conservation and preserving their fragile environment, but tourism poses a serious challenge to ecology.
Maybe I should stop telling everyone to visit?
(Contrary to its name, Iceland is actually made up of scores of active volcanoes ready to blow at any time. I’m not kidding. Consider yourselves warned!)
