cheaper by the dozen

OK, not really — I just happened to buy 12 of them because they fit nicely in this egg carton.

Kinder Surprise is banned in the U.S., what a cryin’ shame. I hope Holly’s kiddos like chocolate :)

I finally made it to Scranton after leaving very early in the morning in order to avoid traffic, but as luck would have it I got caught in a major highway detour! I still have no idea WHY all lanes after Fruitland were closed on the QEW, but it added over an hour to my trip. I didn’t see any accidents or vehicles or even a rabbit. What were they trying to do? Land a jumbo jet??

I’m going flying in the morning! Whee!

les fleurs

As much as I dislike pink, I love blossoming trees.

I got a good night’s sleep last night, so I’m ready to push off for a weekend in the south (again). Good ol’ Queen Vic for having a birthday in May and giving her royal subjects an excuse to extend the weekend an extra day. Like we’ll all be toasting dead monarchs on Monday with a barbecue chicken in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, but hey… happy weekend, everybody!

close to you

More film shots to expand the Cannon-Lanphear wedding album. I cropped out quite a bit of the photo because there was something about Eric’s hand on Ali’s waist that was a picture in itself.

in knots

It’s been a very busy week with little free time, but I thought I would wind down the evening with a few photos from a lunchwalk yesterday. When things get a little hectic I try and get out of the office and take some pictures. I think my favourite one is the one of the knots in the tree. I kept circling the tree to find a knot combination that looked most like a face. This wasn’t the one, but I liked this photo better.

Speaking of knots: when lunch was over I walked back to the office and noticed a bunch of police cars and a taxi at the intersection beside my building. As soon as I saw the taxi I knew it had hit someone. I’m not a gawker (I detest rubbernecking on the highway, especially), but because it was a stone’s throw from where I work, my first instinct was ‘I hope it’s not someone I know.’ Which makes me feel guilty because ANYONE who is the victim of an accident is a person someone knows, just not me.

watch out Bugsy Siegel

Pentax K-1000
Elmhurst, PA

This fellow owned the 1939 classic automobile hired for Eric and Ali’s wedding, and I took his picture while he was waiting for them to finish their pictures at the church. I told him he totally looked the part, too — a private eye going after Bugsy Siegel.

  • If I ever take a whole month off, I’m doing this.
  • The Lung Cancer Alliance recently got in touch with me because a couple who lost their son at 41 years of age to lung cancer contacted them, and informed the Alliance of my efforts to raise awareness of lung cancer treatment and research underfunding through this site and these bracelets. I visited the Alliance’s website, and couldn’t help but be touched by this letter from Dana Reeve’s sister.
  • Interestingly, I was contacted on Friday by a company who wishes to buy ad space on my website. I told them that all proceeds from my website are directed towards the Lung Cancer Alliance. Will let you know how that goes.
  • At one of the service plazas along the New York State Thruway (I-90), I saw an Amish family try and figure out the vending machines on their own. Someone eventually came along and gave them a hand.
  • I tried mochi ice cream (a Japanese confection) for the first time over the weekend, in SCRANTON of all places!
  • Tomorrow, Vinny would’ve been a teenager.

Eric and Ali
Mr. and Mrs. Cannon

Aren’t these two cute? I seldom say ‘cute’ unless I’m talking about kidlets or baby animals, but Eric and Ali make one cute couple. Ali’s wedding dress was gorgeous, too, and normally I’m not a fan of most styles of wedding dress. She made a great choice in this one.

I dropped off the film to get developed today and put on CD, but they were short-staffed at the lab and won’t be done until tomorrow. Ah, well. In the meantime, I went home and took a two-hour nap to feel more human after the trip home last night and today’s work presentation.

I feel many hours away from catching up on sleep, but thought I should be diligent about archiving all my photos for peace of mind before I begin any post-processing on the wedding pictures. Especially since last night when I was just about to leave Niagara Falls to cross the border, I discovered too late that my last film roll didn’t load properly and I lost about 10 shots from Lake Scranton, a few from yesterday’s trip to the flea market, and the ones I’d just taken of the Niagara River with the Pentax. It made my stomach drop a little because I have a feeling that the Lake Scranton pictures would’ve turned out better than the ones at the church. I suppose I’ll never know for sure and there’s nothing I can do about it now but hope the one properly-exposed roll did indeed expose properly. It’ll be the first batch out of the camera since it was fixed, so I’ll see if the overhaul had any effect on the Pentax’s output.

After I found out all my shots of the river were gone, I loaded the camera again and went back to shoot a whole new roll before leaving again. (Just get back on that horse, Gail.) We’ll see how they turn out!

I didn’t really take many pictures of the wedding compared to what I normally do, but I was able to print some off at the reception with the portable photo printer which made the family pretty happy. That’s what counts!

Niagara River

Home finally. I made an impromptu photography stop on the U.S. side because the vantage point is better. I can walk right up to the Niagara River, while on the Canadian side it’s nowhere near as accessible.
