As you might’ve guessed, things have been downright busy here at the House of Fielding. A work project has consumed my days to the point where I might just end up dreaming of spreadsheets. My evenings are a mix of planning an affordable entry into aviation and classroom instruction. Am trying to retain what I’ve learned through the day and night, but I’m sure my memory leaks. There are also other items in the mix, but first thing’s first:
I finally got my Pentax K-1000 back from the shop today! While there, I did a cursory inspection and put an exposed roll through to test it. It’s as clean as a whistle, and I’m trying to purge the twinge of shelling out hundreds for the overhaul by reminding myself that it needed a tune-up, anyway. David never cleaned it and it sat around gathering dust in the attic for the longest time. But like the car, it reminds me of David and I want to make these things last as long as possible.
I was beginning to panic yesterday because the shop said they didn’t know if it could be done in time for me to shoot a wedding this weekend, but I told them how badly I wanted to use it, and in the end the repair shop came through. When I went to pick it up today, it felt incredibly good in my hands even though it’s a solid, heavy casing that weighs a ton compared to a digital camera. I didn’t imagine I would feel quite this relieved to have it back in my possession; I really missed shooting with it! I’m definitely going to be more careful with it around liquids from now on.
