The PSTAR exam is tomorrow, and I don’t think I’m ready to take it yet. I was only able to book my medical appointment today with a doctor in Toronto that was on the list of Transport Canada’s approved medical examiners. I’m supposed to have that category 3 medical certificate before I take the PSTAR exam, which — if I pass with 90% or higher — allows me to obtain the student pilot permit. I took the first appointment I could get, which isn’t until APRIL 3. There are other doctors I could use, but they’re outside of Toronto proper and I can’t leave work for half a day for a medical exam. The exam itself takes around an hour, and it’s more extensive than a checkup.
So I called the flight school today to ask whether I’d still be able to write the PSTAR exam even though I don’t have the medical endorsement, and the answer was that I could still take it but they wouldn’t be able to authorize it until I get the exam done. Which suggests to me that I should write this exam closer to the end of the month when I’m more confident about knowing the material inside and out. I’m still undecided on this.
