  1. Whiteout Thursday

    March 1, 2007 by Gail

Today started out rather nicely, but in the early afternoon the weather took a turn for the worse, as forecasted:

    whiteout

Thankfully ground school was last night instead of tonight, or I’d never have made it. This morning Bereaved Families of Ontario called to say that tonight’s meeting has been cancelled because of the weather, and around 3:00 the managers at work told everyone to go home!

    OK!

Most of the people in my branch live in the ‘burbs and take trains, so it was in everyone’s best interests to hightail it out of the office while there was still transportation to be had. Someone mentioned a derailment, cancellations, and various impediments to getting home — none of which affected me directly, but many others. Thus a truncated Thursday.

For the minority of us who either walk home or live relatively close by, there was a much more trivial dilemma at hand: go home now or go shopping?

(In case you think this was written by someone impersonating me — shopping! bah! — that wasn’t my suggestion.)

At any rate, I did end up at Eaton Centre for a bit of a wander… to the Apple Store, a rather dangerously convenient retail location for me. Nearly bought merchandise, talked myself out of it.

We decided to wait out the white deluge by eating. (My idea, surprise surprise.) Of course, I brought my camera and I am totally guilty for turning my friend into a martian by strategically putting her head between two decorative window dressing pieces:

I turned her into a martian

I hope all this snow melts tomorrow night, I’m supposed to be hanging out at Niagara Falls for the weekend. A casino may or may not be involved!
