It had been absolutely ages since I’d had sushi, so when Gigi’s Papa phoned to say he was back in town, I asked him if he was interested in some sashimi and other assorted Japanese delicacies. I’m pleased to report he has yet to say no to sashimi!

It’s purely coincidence that all the photo subjects from my cameraphone today began with the letter ’s’; I can’t explain what prompted the alliteration over the course of an entire day.

Queen Street has some curious shops, that’s for sure. The aviator caught my eye, of course, with his jaunty outfit. David’s favourite item of clothing was his heavy brown leather aviator-style jacket that he wore year-round.

Bold, bold squirrels near my place of work. They showed no fear, only brazen mooching. My cameraphone has no optical zoom, so these critters are only a few inches away.

Taken with my first digicam, the one with no sound. Low-res but still rather cute.

There is one advantage to waking up in the middle of the night after a one-hour nap turns into a six-hour nap, and that’s having the 24-hour grocery store all to yourself. There was one cashier and a security guard milling around Dominion until I got to the checkout aisle, which is a change from the elbow-to-elbow scene it usually is at the other store on the way home from work. I buy groceries then because even though I have every intention to avoid the rush hour mob by going later, I need things for dinner and by the time I arrive home and eat I don’t want to go out anymore.

The other reason why I dragged myself out at this hour is because my phone is nearly dead and I left my charger plugged into the wall at Helma’s house. But I have a car charger, so I went to kill two birds with one stone and charge the phone while doing a leisurely shop.

While in Dominion I spotted these gingerbread houses and thought about Christmases past when I bought a kit at IKEA and decorated them with the kids on Christmas Day.

I’m not a big fan of gingerbread, but I like the decorating part!

And speaking of food, here’s a taste of Helma’s homestyle cooking before I drove back to Toronto. Well, you’ll have to imagine the flavour, but Helma cooks everything from scratch and I’m convinced there’s a magic ingredient of comfort that’s added to every dish. Is it any wonder why I head south every chance I get?
