A bunch of us newcomers to Toronto got together in the afternoon and bumbled around town and country in an aimless but leisurely fashion. We started off on foot and ran the gamut of weather — from morning sunshine to afternoon nastiness in the form of wind and rain back to clear again — and dressed properly for most of it, but were caught out in chilling winds at Scarborough Bluffs after continuing the tour by car.
“Where do people buy long johns?”

The tour direction turned to restaurant selections, and I managed to steer us to the Danforth, home to many Greek restaurants but very few available parking spots. (People of Vancouver: don’t ever complain about parking downtown. You have it good.)

I took us to Ouzeri Restaurant, where you may recall in June I did partake of a rather large octopus tentacle. We didn’t order tentacles this time around, but everything we had was pretty good. Noriko and I both preferred the way they make the moussaka at Takis Taverna in Vancouver, but I got them to try the flambéed saganaki and that went down quite well, along with the calamari and lamb pie. Food on fire — how can you resist?
Dessert and coffee were at another Greek establishment and it wasn’t long before we began winding down for the evening. Greek food is like a sedative, which is why I stopped eating it at lunchtime years ago.
Last but not least, I got to meet George the cat, who regarded me favourably once I started playing with him. I’ve been told he doesn’t get excited over catnip, but he might change his mind once I supply him with Hugh’s Pennsylvania gold standard. The kind that inspired this video, and perhaps more.
