  2. Cooking Up a Storm

20060908(010).jpgEliza’s been cooking up a veritable maelstrom of Taiwanese food, and there are simply hordes of people here, enjoying the feast. It would really help if I understood Mandarin, but since I don’t, I’m just going to eat first and figure out what I’m eating as I go. I’m still full from the pansit shown in the previous post, but I’ve never had this Taiwanese style of wrap before, and I’m always willing to try something new. Besides, I’ve been gone for a year and Eliza’s turned into an urban Martha Stewart while I’ve been away! I’ve never seen her cook so much before — she even made the custard dessert!

  3. Oodles of Noodles

20060908(004).jpgSome cameraphone shots taken at New Town Bakery in Chinatown with my aunt. We had a mountain o’ pansit (Philippine noodle dish, Chinese style here, Filipinos use vermicelli) and even though I was stuffed to the gills I had to order some halo halo — a Philippine dessert that features shaved ice, red bean, condensed milk, coconut, and other delicacies, topped with ice cream.

I had to walk off some of the food before I burst at the seams, so we went to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, a place I’d been meaning to return to many times to take photos. Today was another brilliantly sunny day, which describes every single day I’ve spent here in Vancouver. I heard it’s supposed to rain tomorrow, but I don’t mind — it’s bone dry and the area needs some moisture!
