Parker met some of his extended family today, a Filipino branch that includes aunties and cousins and loads of… you guessed it — eating!

Darcy the Dog is still adjusting to little Parker, but there’s plenty of lovin’ to go around.

  2. Labour Day Monday

    September 5, 2006 by Gail

… was thankfully without any real labour. This picture of Rod tossing a branch into English Bay was the extent of it, and he was really doing it for effect.

    English Bay

MarkThe day kicked off by meeting my friend Mark for lunch at the Denman location of the superb Malaysian eatery Banana Leaf. We spent the afternoon in the most *pun alert* fruitful way possible: picking blackberries at the entrance to Stanley Park, climbing trees to take photos, and exploring the recesses of the mind… mine, specifically. I came away with some film shots, berry stains on my fingers, and some notes to ponder in a quieter setting. Thank you, Mark!

After dropping off my film, I went home to change before meeting up with Fancy and Rod to take them on a “Gail Tour” around the periphery of the peninsula that is downtown Vancouver. There’s a Night Tour, too, but we only had so much time!

Fancy and RodWe walked north along Burrard to the cruise ship terminal (also known as Canada Place) before heading west towards Stanley Park via the newly-developed area of Coal Harbour. From there we cut through to Lost Lagoon, Second Beach, and along the seawall to English Bay, taking in the scenery along the way. I filled in the commentary as we strolled and worked up an appetite.

Hunger set in and we headed back north along Denman Street to the old Montreal eatery called Rooster’s Quarters before a requisite trip to True Confections a couple of doors down to satisfy Fancy’s penchant for DESSERT! Although, I shouldn’t pick on Fancy — Rod’s strawberry rhubarb pie was practically inhaled from his plate and mine didn’t last long, either.

But that was what all the walking was for!

We made a pitstop at the Landmark Hotel to take in the views of the city from the Cloud 9 revolving restaurant, and I pointed out a bunch of eateries I’m fond of along Robson Street… because, you know, I obviously can’t get food off my brain! Rod wrestled a bear or two, and we found some funny Engrish at the Glico shop — the makers of the well-known confection called Pocky. (Here’s the global Flickr tag for Pocky.)

The tour will continue next time I’m in town, folks!

  3. Surf’s Up!

    surfing in Tofino

Oh man, so many photos, so little time… I’d like to lock myself in a closet with a bottomless latte for three days just so I can go through them all, but I’ll post some random pics to start. Here’s one of a bunch I took of some surfers on Friday night. The sunsets in Tofino are magnificent, but the ocean temperature is still hypothermia-inducing. All surfers are told to wear wetsuits.
