I have that random phrase lodged in my coconut because tonight while watching Pirates of the Caribbean at the Harbourfront Centre’s open stage with Rachael’s mum and hundreds of other people, a sailing ship snuck up behind the audience and fired off a mighty cannon blast, preceded by a megaphone announcing “FIRE IN THE HOLE!” According to the program, Jaws showed on Tuesday, but I’m still freaked out from the FIRST time I saw it, so I’m glad we went tonight!
A summer evening well spent, starting off with an outdoor Indian meal of — mmmmm — butter chicken, with an ice cream chaser in a sugar cone. It was while we were having our Indian food that we noticed hordes of people gathering at the stage seating, and we had no idea why. I was looking forward to a live performance, but the electronic sign informed me that they were showing Pirates of the Caribbean, which we’ve both seen but once you’ve got an ice cream cone in your hand and a lovely summer evening by a harbour, you have no intention of breaking the spell by shuffling off, even if it was Gidget showing on the big screen.
In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.
And speaking of random, while we were waiting for our food, I picked up a message from the CIBC VISA fraud department and when I rang them, was kept on hold for nearly half an hour before I spoke to an agent. I didn’t mind so much having to phone them since I want them to notify me when a questionable situation arises, but once I confirmed that the Gladstone Hotel had authorised my VISA for the upcoming event, I told them I minded having to wait so long for an agent. The agent then told me he would give me points, and when I asked how many, he hesitated and said 500. Good enough for me! That’s 500 Aeroplan miles for waiting half an hour. Not bad, I thought, but that’s only because it was a carefree half hour enjoying Quay to the City, not a half hour trying to negotiate traffic or somesuch.
