Risk Reward

As seen on a Mustang Ferrari on University Ave.

Gah, I’m so frustrated. I wasted an entire evening on car maintenance that mostly didn’t happen. Just getting spark plugs from the Ford dealership reminded me of when I went to them to complete the car importation back in the spring and they were complete jerks. I’m beginning to think I should forget about car maintenance and drive the car until it won’t run anymore and then use Zipcar if I need one like I used Cooperative Auto Network in Vancouver. Because I imported the car in a duty-free category, I can’t sell it for two years, so I’m pretty much stuck with it. If I need to go on a road trip, I’ll rent a car.

I think I spy a “Prancing horse” on the back of that car, so it must be a Ferrari. I’m shocked that I actuaaly like his plates…

Eesh. Sorry to hear. I had a clunker of a car back in the day, and I always rented whenever I went out of my zip code. In hindsight, it probably saved me a ton over buying another car. But a fool and his money…

I bought my 11 year old Volvo wagon for $7000 cash and have put in another $1500 or so. Worth every penny because of the amount of cash I’ll save in the long run over financing a new one. Plus, if it gets a ding or is messy I don’t care. Mine is pretty trustworthy on long trips, so far, but renting isn’t a bad idea just to be safe. I love my car. 130,000 miles on it and still kicking!

Why don’t you go somewhere other than the dealership? Spark plugs are very easy to replace actually, you probably could have picked them up at Canadian Tire and did it yourself.

I hope tomorrow is less frustrating for you!

The Ford Focus wagon has 116,000 miles on it and it’s only five years old! David drove it all the time, and we did a lot of road trips in it. While I was in Vancouver last summer, he found a Volvo wagon just like my old one and was going to put an offer on it, but I told him we should save the money for our honeymoon :( Which is just as well, I suppose, since I couldn’t import two cars myself.

Canadian Tire wouldn’t supply the spark plugs. They said only Ford parts can be installed in Ford vehicles, and it would take a while to get the parts from Ford. They wanted me to bring them in. (I think they also said Mazda dealerships have Motocraft parts, too.) There are also two different types of spark plugs for the Ford Focus wagon, and they’re not interchangeable. Car parts are fairly proprietary these days, it’s how they continue to make money after you’ve purchased their vehicles.
