“Oh, jeepers!” — Catherine O’Hara, voice of Penny Porcupine in Over the Hedge. Anyone who’s seen Christopher Guest’s films “Waiting for Guffman”, “Best in Show”, and “A Mighty Wind” will easily recognise O’Hara, and Eugene Levy’s voice as her husband, Lou Porcupine. Various reviews (including comments on the film’s adult-oriented parodies) abound. (Some factoids about the film.) But will kids like it? I’d say yes. The kids won’t notice the heavy-handedness or the dubiousness of the messages, they’ll be suitably entertained.
“Jeepers!” — there are a lot of Canadians in this film (William Shatner is a possum, Avril Lavigne is his offspring).
I haven’t been able to get the phrase out of my head since watching this comic diversion last Sunday.
If only “Over the Hedge” were playing overhead this afternoon — that is, on the ceiling of the doctor’s office when I was trying to ignore the fact that a Pap smear was being conducted down below by a young male physician.
“Jeepers!” — that thing is cold!
“Jeepers!” — are you finished yet?
“JEE-PERS!”

Jeepers. … Saw it with Annabel. Second movie I took her to. The first was Chicken Little before she was two. .. It was a mess. Had to chase her around the theater for a couple hours until we could go home (I had taken the babysitter’s kids, too.) But Over the Hedge went over pretty good with her, except that she was “ascared by somepin” and kept asking to go home near the end. … Afterward, though, she kept talking about it and wanting to go back to the MOOO-vie. And to hear her tell it, there was NO one in the MOOOVie but turtle.
Funny stuff.

Steve Carell was priceless as “Hammy”. The moment he said, “I’m not stupid” and the tears began to well up in his cartoon squirrel eyes, you could hear a million little hearts breaking. His solo scene while everyone was stock still — hysterical.

I can’t wait to see this film, the trailers alone crack me up!
As for the pap smear, eish, I had a similiar Doogie Howser experience the first time I had to spread ‘em here in NL, men shouldn’t be allowed to be gynos until they are at least 40

I *loved* Over the Hedge. I went in with low expectations due to the reviews here, but was very pleasantly surprised. Hammy was awesome, especially since I know a few people prone to his kind of energy.
And Bill Shatner’s ‘playing dead” scenes were quite funny. A great popcorn movie.
My best pap smear moment - when my doctor (who was awesome, if not entirely socialized) said about the culture swab, “Wow, that looks like a Q-tip for an elephant.” His nurse was horrified. I laughed.

This may very well be the only post that could possibly link squirrel with pap smear.
