  1. Ralph Flirts With Canon

Ralph was *gasp* the only Nikon user at the table. Needless to say, the poor guy was lynched teased mercilessly by unnamed parties.

If you’re not familiar with the endless Canon versus Nikon debate, I refer you to photojunkie.ca‘s recent post on this very subject:

Photojunkie Mailbag: Canon vs. Nikon (see also the comments)

Before you begin shelling out the relatively large sums of money required to get into the DSLR arena, it would behoove you to read the various caveats regarding choice of brand. It may not matter now, but when it comes to buying lenses that are compatible with the camera body, what make and model you decide will determine what accessories (the really big ticket items) will be available for it down the line.

Personally, not having the money for either a Nikon OR Canon DSLR makes life a little simpler in this regard. :)

However, I’ve become rather fond of shooting with David’s old Pentax K-1000, which is fully manual and weighs a ton (or tonne!); my DSLR time will come eventually.

  2. Dogs Have Owners, Cats Have Staff

    June 13, 2006 by Gail

Tomorrow I meet with a prospective catsitter to see if he’s up for the task of looking after Mister Hugh when I’m out of town. I’m sure he’s thinking, “Pfffff–I know how to look after cats!” (he works at a veterinary hospital downtown), but little does he know of Hugh’s predilection for, er, leavings in all shapes and sizes and locations. Poop-hunting, medication dispensing, washer/dryer usage is part of the job description.

I even have a Stink Finder.

“It’s important to always have the right tool for the job!” David used to say.

Scoff if you will, but it beats the nose-to-the-ground or patting-area-gingerly methods.

I suspect wage negotiation will be part of the agenda after the first debriefing. That is, if we make it that far.

  3. The Evidence

I discovered them in Vancouver a few years ago, and couldn’t walk by Howe and Georgia without craving a sparkle cookie. It’s even worse now that I’ve moved to Toronto and, again, live downtown near one of their locations.

    Must. Resist. Sparkle. Cookies.
