I also met Rachael’s mom and sister, but I took a ton of shots of Bogey, so that’s who you’ll see the most.
Even though it was a bright and sunny day outside, I was having a rotten afternoon inside thanks to a terribly unsettling dream about David, so I was more than ready to get out of the apartment and get out of my head.
I’d had a long talk with Rachael last night, and I suggested that I pop ’round to her mother’s today as it’s been something I’d been meaning to do ever since I landed in Toronto. Also, it was an opportunity to meet her sister, who was getting ready to head off to Vancouver for two weeks (can I hitch in your suitcase?).
The directions from Google maps were a little distorted, but I eventually found the house and was immediately greeted by Bogey — Bogart, the American Staffordshire terrier — who weighs a very solid 55 lbs or so. I’m sure he could mow down anyone if he really wanted to, but despite my residual jitters from getting bitten in Australia by a small dog, I wasn’t frightened when he ran straight at me and jumped on my legs. He doesn’t look like a classic terrier and is extremely friendly. It was a bit of a challenge to take his photo, but he held still for doggy biscuits!
I don’t think I’ve ever considered myself a dog person, but lately I’ve been so enamoured with dogs like Bente the Bouvier (Belgian sheepdog) that I can see dog ownership in my future. Of course, not while Mister Hugh is around, he’d never go for that.
