Geeking Out in Rotterdam
Published by Gail March 30th, 2006 in Critters + Creatures, Europe, Unabashed GeekinessBreigh and I stayed up and blethered late into the night, and thus the geekery that was postponed is in full swing today… a demo of World of Warcraft for my benefit, and watching/listening to American Idol courtesy of Bit Torrent. I got rid of the TV in Pennsylvania so I haven’t watched a single episode of AI before today.
Breigh’s verdict: “What a horrible day in American Idolville.”
Oh dear.
I’ve just pulled out the portable photo printer and given Breigh a demo — yes, I am indeed the Ultimate Photo Geek. I mean, who packs around a portable photo printer except me?? People shake their heads when they see it, but it’s very useful!
I was chasing the pets around the house earlier, trying to take their pictures. I had the most success with Spencer because he stays still. Bailey the dog is too hyper, but I got a couple of him, and Salem — well, Salem is a black kitty and it’s a challenge to make black cats look more than just a black blob with eyes.
Bah. My Canon A80’s sensor is on the fritz. You can see horizontal lines showing in low-light conditions:

I remember how all of us were in awe at the photo printer when we got our first demo in Vancouver. It is a really cool device!

P.S. Be careful if she gives you a free two week demo to WoW. On the other hand she can probably set you up with a few epics to help you start out…

Your photo printer has got to be one of the coolest little tech gadgets ever! I remember shaking my head when I first saw it - but you know, once it started making smiles at Laura Grace’s going away party, I was totally sold!
I have one of those portable printers on my birthday wish list. I hope I get it!
Does this make you miss your buddy Hugh? He’s probably good and ready for you to come home. I’m glad you’re having so much fun with your friends - what a great change of scenery for you. Travel safely the rest of the way.
No way Gail! You did not travel to Europe with the photo printer… or did you? Well, if that does not make you the ultimate photo geek, then nothing will.

Gail, I’ve had the same problem with my Canon A60, on and off, for over two years now. The horizontal lines appear every now and then in low light conditions as you said. Crazily, turning the camera off and on again often solves the problem. Other times, I just continue taking the same shot over and over until one comes up ‘clean’.
Touch wood, it hasn’t happened for several months now.
