  1. Full Connectivity Restored!

    March 6, 2006 by Gail

In the electrical nuttiness that’s ensued for the past two days, the cable modem, router, and VoIP gateway have been working intermittently at best. I’ve been online thanks to my neighbour Mike, whose bandwidth I’ve been sucking dry. I hope he didn’t notice. I haven’t been able to use the (Vancouver number) VoIP because it needs to cable directly into the router (wi-fi only works for the computer), which for some unknown reason wouldn’t co-operate with the cable modem. I was never so happy to see the blinking green lights again! The infernal red status light on the VoIP gateway was driving me bonkers. I prefer to manage my own tech stuff, but I became so frustrated I nearly raised the white flag and called someone for help. (more…)

  2. Snail Mail / Phone / IM

While waiting for the electrician to show up*, I wrote my contact details into a password-protected page called ‘Contact’ that can be found under the ‘Navigate’ section at the top. It would make more sense to put it under the ‘Contact’ section, but password protection is reserved for posts and pages, which is part of the ever-important Loop system used by WordPress. The ‘Contact’ section is out of “The Loop” — until I can find a way around it.

So if you ever want to contact me the old-fashioned way, there’s a static page to reference. The password for Contact is the same as for the other password-protected posts, for now.

    * The electrician showed up — I have heat! I’m in an old building and the wiring is obviously from pre-gadget days. (Gadget Gail, Electricity Hog, has arrived.) For some crazy reason, the heating system and fridge and half of the sockets are running on one circuit, and the breaker needs rejigging. The electrician rejigged, but it got overloaded again… back to the drawing board.
