The U-Haul is loaded up, thanks to a team of friends who came by this afternoon. All the furniture is in the back of the truck, and most of the boxes, numbered for the inventory list. Helma brought her famous German potato salad and a rotisserie chicken, bless her heart. We are well fed.
We’re due to leave early in the morning, but there’s a weather system warning for snow, sleet, and ice. It hasn’t begun yet, but it has me a little worried if it becomes severe. Dax is driving the 17-foot U-Haul truck, which is thankfully brand new (436 miles on it when we picked it up), so there’s virtually no chance of mechanical failure. I’m driving the car, with Hugh. We did a trial yesterday with a sedative for him to gauge its effects, and it definitely works as described! Hugh was extremely mellow, for a good five hours or so. I’ll give him his pill an hour before we leave.
The timing for the border crossing is based on the 72-hour automobile deregistration period required by the U.S. border, which states we can’t cross before 12:30pm on Thursday. Alas, today’s weather was perfect for driving (warm and sunny and dry) — let’s hope this incoming weather system is overrated and our trip is uneventful.
