  2. Metaflying

    February 6, 2006 by Gail

    March (12?) 2005

I’m pretty certain it was Alan we were watching coming in for a landing in the CAP Cessna. We just happened to be flying around in the area, as we often did on the weekends.

Music: “Coming in to Land” by Badly Drawn Boy*

    * I electronically stitched these two flying clips together and was looking for an instrumental with the unlikely runtime of 1:38. I did a sort by time in iTunes and happened upon this Badly Drawn Boy piece that was nearly the same length, from their album “Have You Fed the Fish?” and the title was, coincidentally, “Coming in to Land”. The other coincidence is the rather ominous-sounding ending starts right when Alan reaches the runway. I had to laugh — it sounded like it was all on purpose (and suggested that the landing was in question!), but it was just a string of coincidences.

  3. David at 17: Ennui, Apathy, er, Irony

    February 6, 2006 by Gail

A perfect post for Monday, methinks. Ah, the ennui of high school. It cracks me up. (Now, that is.)

    Journal 10/15 (1984)

    DavidHappy Monday to you!

My image of Mr. Steele has just been shattered — he doesn’t seem to care what’s going on in the rest of the school. Apathy is a terrible thing. Someday someone will do something about all the apathy in the world. But not me. Just now on the announcements they said what Mr. Steele didn’t know — that Mr. Sheridan’s class is going to the courthouse. Hassan just said that “this is the silliest thing I’ve ever written”. I wonder why. I’m starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for these journals. I ought to do something interesting so I could write about it. That could never happen in school.

    Journal 10/23

I’m all dressed up today because they’re going to take my picture. Ask me if this delights me. Because it don’t. The color in my face won’t come out good on film, because the collar of my shirt is choking me.

For all the thirtysomethings out there: don’t you just love the 80′s high school portraiture? The backlighting and soft focus, oh dear. Mine are no better — my hair is so big it’s outside the frame. (Those photos are still in Vancouver.)

  4. Website Additions

    February 6, 2006 by Gail

Newly fleshed-out ‘About‘ section. Previous incarnation was sparse, and I needed a place for chronology. Will no doubt undergo chronic revision.

Installed a plug-in for ‘Archives‘ that generates a complete index of all post titles, which can be filtered by month. (Note: it does not list password-protected posts.) So far the only bug I spotted is that the posts without a title — early on, in 2002 — repeat the title of the last post. Will get around to adding titles… someday… when I’m not buried (in this case, literally) under things that have to get sorted.
