David’s home from the hospital, and hiccupping like crazy. It’s one of the side-effects of chemotherapy, something we’d never heard of — we only previously knew about nausea. Another one we didn’t know about was sneezing, but it isn’t happening as much.
Dave’s Logbook - Home, Hopeful, and *hic*
We had a visitor drop by shortly after we arrived home, and I ducked out to pick up a FedEx package with a present of a drawing of Dave by Socar, which I’ll take a photo of after we frame it. Thanks Socar! I also bought some ginger at Gerrity’s, which should help with David’s nausea. I think what’s plaguing him worse than nausea right now is the hiccupping. When he started hiccupping yesterday we thought it was funny, but that’s because hiccupping usually goes away. Now it’s driving him up the wall.
Anyone have any proven techniques for stopping the hiccups?

Yeah, stop trying to cure them. It seems to be the only thing that works.

Did my package arrive?! I got a mail saying it was signed for by T. Lydon, I guess it was a nurse… ?

Hey Gail and David,
What fabulous news…no spreading, but melting like butter…sounds like the best case scenario given what could have been. relief hello?
Good luck with the treatment which I know is not pleasant. As for hiccups…drink while holding your breath from the opposite side of the glass….or Gail, scare him unexpectedly, that should work about ONCE, then go back to the water in the glass technique…then try scaring him again….hahahaha just in case you can get him again….
Good luck with the hiccup recovery, I hate hiccups…involuntary contraction of the diaphragm…hmmm, who would have thunk it…as a side-effect.
Sending lots of love,
Vic

Hopefully by now his hiccups are long gone. In case they come back, here are a few things we’ve had lots of luck getting rid of them with:
Suck on a lifesaver (or other hard candy)
Say the word “FISH” quite loudly, with force (seriously, it works!)
Dare him to hiccup just one more time. (LOL I did this to a teller at the bank recently, and she couldn’t hiccup again. She was quite glad.)
Eat a spoonful of peanut butter, or sugar.
I hope the hiccups are one of the worst side effects David has to endure, and that he’s feeling better real soon!
